29 year old East Harlem rapper Dave East has been stirring the pot lately. He’s argued with Masika (Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood) on Instagram and his latest bout has been with social media trolls. The rapper posted a picture from his video shoot for a single off of his second album, “Paranoia” and many people were upset about the shot. Apparently, there were NO black women in his video. None! ZILCH! NaDA! After reading thousands of comments asking him about the lack of color in a HIP HOP video for an artist out of HARLEM, Dave East responded with this:
He basically says that he doesn’t have creative control over his videos and that his director does the casting. I find it ridiculous that a rapper signed under Nas’s label Mass Appeal Records would even do something like this or not speak against it! His “All Lives Matter” response rubbed me the wrong way and felt like a cop out. I really felt like this was an excuse especially because it seems to be the latest trend in hip hop videos today. I have soooo much more that I could say, but I will leave it to you guys!!!
