Brandy is BACK on Broadway Until August 31st!

Black community, Celebrity News, Hip Hop/R&B, Music

Brandy Norwood is back on Broadway performing once again in the Chicago musical as Roxie Hart and so far her return has been epic!

Apparently, the singer was almost in tears during curtain call and thanked the audience while bowing beside her co-stars.

Brandy initially took on the task of Roxie Hart in 2015 and after a tough and busy summer reprised the sassy role from August 17th-August 31st. I’m hoping to try to catch her performance soon!

Give it up for the LADIES!!!!

Queen of the Ring is an old time favorite of mine, but the fans are saying ya’ll need to come harder with the battles and with how quickly you guys are putting them out! We need a fan favorite and we need some passionate battlers! A lot of the older girls have given up on the art of it. Time for some new blood!

Remy Ma Brings Out Lil Kim, Young M.A., Cardi B & MORE During Summer Jam 2017

Black community, Female Rappers, Hip Hop/R&B, Music, Social Media Sensations

THIS is Female EMPOWERMENT! We have been brainwashed to believe that only ONE female rapper can run hip-hop at a time and I am so GLAD to see Remy Ma do something that other femcees should have done a long time ago.  The Bronx native performed during Hot 97’s Summer Jam and brought out rappers Lil Kim, Young M.A., and Cardi B. She also showed love onstage to mogul Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Monie Love and Lady of Rage.

What I would GIVE to have a compilation cd of hip-hop’s female MCs! And a TOUR! OMG!!!

It also seems as if Remy Ma responded to a leaked diss track from Nicki Minaj (“Real Lies“) during Summer Jam ’17 by shouting “F*CK NICKI MINAJ before performing her diss record “SHether”.

I’m not sure if ya’ll are aware of Nicki Minaj’s antics behind the scenes but she attempts to use her influence and money to shut down other female artists and I think that it is downright disgusting and insecure of her to do so. She has tried to prevent Remy Ma from working, Cardi B, and singer K.Michelle. (Check our Instagram for more information about these stories-and Follow us if you don’t already!)

With Tupac’s Biopic “All Eyez On Me” just a few days away, let’t take a moment to appreciate actor Demetrius Shipp, Jr.‘s (he portrays Tupac in the biopic) recreation of Tupac Shakur’s most iconic Vibe magazine covers. The movie releases this Friday, June 16th.

I am so excited to see this movie! I have tickets for an advance screening on Thursday so I will definitely let ya’ll know if it’s a thumbs up or thumbs down! (Can’t give ya’ll specifics though…)

Serena Williams is PREGNANT!

Black community, Celebrity News, Sports

Guess what ya’ll!!

On Wednesday, Serena Williams confirmed that she was 20 weeks pregnant (5 months) and expecting her first child later this year. The 35 year old athlete has not played in a tennis match since January 28, which makes her about two months pregnant when she WAS playing.

Of course, there has been a lot of people saying that she doesn’t look pregnant and if you’re a conspiracy theorist (like myself) I thought that she may have been a man at one point. (LOL, sorry it’s the truth ya’ll) But…I guess she has proved us wrong. Serena is also newly engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, so I would say that this has been a great year for her already! (Please also include that in January she won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title)

How fantastic is it to know that she won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title while two months pregnant? #blackgirlmagic

Congratulations to the famous athlete! (and to her baby zaddy..)

Cop Beats A JayWalker

There is a criminal investigation now underway for the disturbing actions of a Sacramento police officer who has been caught on video beating a man for…jaywalking. They have not yet released the officer’s name, but he has been placed on leave for the incident.

His dash cam footage was released on Tuesday and there was also footage shown from a bystander’s cell phone on social media.

The following statement was released from the Sacramento Police Dept.

“The actions of the involved Sacramento police officer are disturbing and do not appear to be reasonable based upon the circumstances,” the Police Department said in a statement. “The Sacramento Police Department holds itself to the highest professional standard and the actions that were observed are not indicative of the dedicated women and men who work for the Department.”

Charlie Murphy Dies at Age 57

Black community, Celebrity News

Well, I’ve been saying it for awhile now and it has finally come to pass. (I’ve said this simply because he’s looked really sick in most of his pictures lately and I realized something was wrong…no other reason!) Beloved comedian Charlie Murphy has passed away today at the age of 57.

Via TMZ we’ve learned that the actor/comedian lost the battle to leukemia this morning in an NYC hospital. He was receiving chemotherapy treatments and his family was shocked at his death because they had all assumed that he was getting better.

Charlie Murphy is actor/comedian Eddie Murphy’s oldest brother and most know him from his stint on Dave Chappelle’s comedy show “The Chappelle Show.”

Charlie Murphy also wrote and starred in movies with his brother Eddie, like “Vampire in Brooklyn” and “Norbit.” He recently toured with Cedric the Entertainer, D.L Hughley, George Lopez, and Eddie Griffin on “The Comedy Get-Down.” Charlie lost his wife to cervical cancer in 2009 and he leaves behind 3 children.

Cosmetic Lines for Women of Color

Advice, Black community, Fashion

Hey ya’ll! I wanted to make a quick post about a couple of Black owned cosmetic lines out here and/or lines specifically made for black women! I am a newbie when it comes to applying a full face of make-up and a lot of times I find myself looking for make-up lines specifically made for women of color. For whatever reason, most of the major labels (Rimmel, Covergirl, Maybelline, etc) claim to carry our shades but they’re hardly ever available in store when I go. (Like…never available. Lol) So I thought that I’d share a few alternatives made just for us! (and some by “us”!)

  1. Black Radiance: I’m really excited to share about BR because they JUST introduced a new eyeshadow color palette and it is GORG!!!! I use this line’s Match Me Foundation and it is my absolute fav! (This line is NOT black owned, but it IS specifically made for women of color.) I mostly shop for BR in Walgreens.

2. Iman Cosmetics: This line IS black owned (owned by the supermodel Iman) and the lipsticks are to die for! I usually purchase this line in Target, CVS, or Walgreens.

3. Black Opal: This company is NOT black owned but it is designed for women of color. If you watch YouTube makeup tutorial videos (like I do-LOL) then you may see a few girls pull out Black Opal’s True Color stick foundation. It’s easy to use and tends to leave an even toned complexion. You can find Black Opal in CVS drugstores.

4. Juvia’s Place: Black owned and we LOVE their eye shadow palettes! They are beautiful and look great on our skin! I had to purchase my palette through Amazon because I was unable to find them in store. (Of course you can purchase them online at Juvia’s Place website-THEY ARE CURRENTLY ON SALE FOR 25.00!!!)

These are just a FEW lines ya’ll and I have actually purchased them all! I will add more as my makeup pile grows! LOL!
